Sr. MSP Systems Engineer

Position Summary:

The Senior MSP Systems Engineer is a senior technical role responsible for designing, implementing, supporting, fulfilling and improving client technology environments across the managed services client base and reports to the Chief Engineer.

 

This role requires strong infrastructure knowledge, sound technical judgment, excellent communication skills, and a security-minded approach to every solution. The Senior MSP Systems Engineer works closely with internal teams, vendors, and clients to ensure systems are reliable, secure, well-documented, and aligned with client business needs.

 

The ideal candidate has deep hands-on experience in multi-client IT environments and can move comfortably between technical troubleshooting, project implementation, documentation and client communication.

 

This role is important to the next stage of Manna Networks’ growth. The Senior MSP Systems Engineer will serve as a key technical resource for complex client environments, project delivery, standards development, and team mentorship.

 

The right person will help reduce escalation bottlenecks, improve consistency across client environments, strengthen our security posture, and support the growth of new service offerings. This is a hands-on senior engineering role for someone who wants to do meaningful technical work, influence standards, support the team, and help build what comes next.

 

This is an "exempt" position with salary range of $100K-130K + bonus, depending on experience.

 

Experience Sought / Ideal Candidate:

  • 7+ years of progressive IT infrastructure experience, with demonstrated growth in technical responsibility and problem-solving complexity.

  • 3+ years of experience in an MSP, multi-client, consulting, or similarly fast-paced technical environment preferred.

  • Advanced experience with Microsoft 365, Entra ID, Windows Server, Active Directory, networking, virtualization, endpoint management, backup, and disaster recovery.

  • Experience leading infrastructure projects from discovery and planning through implementation, documentation, and handoff.

  • Strong troubleshooting skills across servers, networks, cloud services, endpoints, security tools, and business applications.

  • Experience with firewalls, VPNs, VLANs, switching, routing, wireless networking, monitoring, patching, endpoint protection, and backup platforms.

  • Familiarity with MSP tools and processes, including PSA/ticketing, RMM, documentation systems, remote access, knowledge bases, and EDR/MDR platforms.

  • Experience with Azure, Intune, conditional access, Microsoft Defender, Microsoft Sentinel, or related Microsoft security and management tools valued.

  • Familiarity with AI-enabled business tools, Microsoft 365 Copilot readiness, and related security, identity, permissions, and data governance considerations valued.

  • Experience using scripting, automation, APIs, or AI-assisted tools to improve operational efficiency, documentation, reporting, or technical service delivery valued.

  • Strong documentation habits and the ability to create clear technical notes, procedures, diagrams, and project handoff materials.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, communicate clearly, work independently, and make sound technical decisions.

  • Ability to explain technical issues and recommendations to both technical and non-technical audiences.

  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to client sites as needed.

  • Relevant certifications are valued but not required, including Microsoft, CompTIA, Cisco, firewall/vendor, VMware, Hyper-V, ISC2, or related certifications.

 

Key Responsibilities:

Technical Escalation and Support

  • Serve as a senior escalation point for complex client issues involving servers, networks, cloud services, endpoints, backups, security tools, and line-of-business systems.

  • Troubleshoot and resolve advanced infrastructure issues while maintaining clear communication with stakeholders.

  • Ensure critical issues are resolved according to service level expectations and client satisfaction standards.

  • Participate in root cause analysis and recommend preventive measures to reduce recurring issues.

  • Support after-hours maintenance or emergency response as needed.

Infrastructure Design and Implementation

  • Design, configure, implement, and maintain client systems, including servers, virtualization platforms, cloud services, networking equipment, storage, backup systems, and security tools.

  • Lead or participate in infrastructure projects such as server migrations, Microsoft 365 migrations, network upgrades, firewall deployments, endpoint management rollouts, backup improvements, and security hardening initiatives.

  • Assess client environments and recommend practical, secure, and scalable solutions.

  • Participate in the design of information systems and operational support processes.

Microsoft, Cloud, and Endpoint Administration

  • Administer and support Microsoft 365, Entra ID, Exchange Online, SharePoint, OneDrive, Teams, and related cloud services.

  • Configure and manage identity, access, MFA, conditional access, endpoint policies, and security controls.

  • Support Windows Server, Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, file services, and related infrastructure.

  • Support endpoint management tools such as Intune, RMM platforms, patching systems, and endpoint security solutions.

Network and Security

  • Configure, troubleshoot, and support firewalls, switches, wireless systems, VLANs, VPNs, routing, and network security controls, along with SIEM/SOC services.

  • Maintain security, backup, redundancy, and disaster recovery strategies across client environments.

  • Apply security-minded practices to system design, user access, administrative controls, monitoring, documentation, and remediation.

  • Assist with incident response, vulnerability remediation, and security improvement initiatives.

Automation, Documentation, and Process Improvement

  • Write and maintain scripts, primarily PowerShell, to improve efficiency, consistency, reporting, and repeatability.

  • Create and maintain accurate technical documentation, including network diagrams, system configurations, procedures, standards, and client-specific notes.

  • Contribute to internal standards, templates, checklists, and service delivery improvements.

  • Identify recurring service issues and recommend process or technology improvements.

Team Leadership and Mentorship

  • Mentor junior technicians and engineers by sharing knowledge, reviewing technical approaches, and helping raise service quality.

  • Collaborate across internal teams to deliver high-quality client outcomes.

  • Provide technical guidance during project planning, client reviews, and solution design.

  • Model proactive service, relational communication, quality work, and security-minded decision-making.

Client and Vendor Communication

  • Communicate technical information clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.

  • Maintain professional, positive client relationships during support, project work, and onsite visits.

  • Coordinate with vendors, software providers, and client stakeholders to resolve issues and complete projects.

  • Support technical discovery and solution recommendations for client improvement opportunities.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to work at a computer for extended periods.

  • Ability to communicate effectively by phone, video, email, ticketing system, and in person.

  • Ability to lift or move equipment up to 25 pounds occasionally.

  • Ability to visit client sites and install, configure, or troubleshoot equipment in office and network environments.

  • Ability to occasionally work outside normal business hours for maintenance windows, urgent issues, or project needs.

  • Must maintain a professional appearance and demeanor at client sites.
